(AP) — Reigning Wimbledon women's champion Marion Bartoli and former champion Venus Williams are teaming up to take on music legend Sir Elton John and former U.S. Open men's champion Andy Roddick in a charity battle of the sexes match. Sunday's match, which opens the annual Mylan WTT Smash Hits series, was held at ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Disney World to raise money for AIDS charities.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after four people were gravely injured in a fiery crash in Fort Myers. Lee County Sheriff's deputies say 23-year-old James Lepore was excessively speeding before crashing head-on into a concrete wall around 4 a.m. Sunday.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Guests were forced to evacuate a Tampa hotel after a fire broke out on the second floor. Roughly 30 Tampa firefighters responded to The Grand Suites hotel Sunday afternoon and quickly located the fire in a room on the second floor. The unoccupied room was also filled with heavy smoke but firefighters were able to put out the blaze in just a few minutes.
MIAMI (AP) — Two Miami high school students with special needs have been crowned homecoming king and queen. Students repeatedly shouted Howard Rouse's name during the fanfare at Southwest Miami High last weekend. Nearly 75 percent of the students voted Rouse as king. Special needs student 22-year-old Isis Chirino was named his queen.
